Welcome to Cynthia Shaver Asian Art Appraiser Newsletter January 2024,

Happy New Year. May there be peace on earth.

This is how I spend my Friday mornings. Learning. I highly recommend.

This documentary, by Judy Woodruff of PBS, is excellent, I feel informed.

I am exploring the work of ‘expert witness’. Have been pleasantly surprised by the support given. My son explained I was flappable yet capable. My virtual consultations continue to amaze me, such fun people with a wide variety of material. This last month I saw a 19th century Chinese porcelain blue and white spoon with a fair market value of $200.00 – $250.00. Before, the most valuable spoon I had examined was worth $25 on a great day.

This month I take the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), an educational requirement for the American Society of Appraisers. It is a 16-hour class, over two days, with other appraisers of personal property. We learn the latest IRS requirements and discuss scope of work rules and experiences with fellow appraisers.

Thank you for reading my newsletter. I always welcome your comments,

Cynthia.
