Welcome to Cynthia Shaver Asian Art Appraiser Newsletter September 2021,

Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter. I appreciate your time reading my copy and following any links. I have added many new names, please go to cynthiashaver.com/subscribe and enter your email if you like.

I asked asianart.com to send my monthly Notes From An Appraiser to this email list. I write a monthly column for our weekly newspaper, THE ARK, serving the communities of Belvedere, Strawberry and Tiburon. Unfortunately, an accompanying photo although published in newspaper, cannot be included without other link. Sorry for inconvenience and to the printing errors that occur because of format. I know they are irritating.

August started with inspecting beautiful 17th c Chinese paintings, mounted as scrolls in Japanese style. The sun was shining just right through our windows emphasizing the craggy black rocks and trees with a lovely, carefully coifed and adorned maiden sitting at bottom of a tree with attendant in waiting. Another inspection was a contemporary Chinese lithograph, a triptych with such power, color and size that it remains embedded in one section of my brain.  I finished the month with a moment that was made and ready for PBS Antiques Roadshow but the Covid pandemic altered that path and I got the moment instead. The property,  a very large cloisonne, 17th c Chinese bowl, that was known as her grandmother’s candy dish, I valued at mid five figures.

It is always a privilege to see such beauty up close. I thank you for your trust.

Enjoy the links.
