Welcome to Cynthia Shaver Asian Art Appraiser Newsletter March 2019,
Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter. It seems it has rained every day this month in the San Francisco Bay area. Of course that statement is not true, but I don’t think we will have a drought either. My most interesting, and gratifying, appraisal recently was from a daughter, carrying out her fiduciary responsibility as executor of her father’s estate. He had more than fifty, 12” and smaller, Japanese and Chinese ceramic figures, all early to mid 20th century. The style and colors varied among the figures, some composing a groups of three or seven, with similar colors used on the base, or all having unglazed faces. There were the Seven Lucky Gods, with Made in China stamped on the bottom. I grouped the like properties and then began explaining who and what they were. I started my discussion stating the fair market value of the individual pieces would not be more than $200, two hundred dollars. Today I received a thank you note from this lady. It has made this gray day a little brighter. She thanked me for my information and mentioned she felt closer to, and understood her father more now. He had traveled to Asia for the oil business in 1970-1990. This was definitely an act of kindness, thank you. Also today, this is from a gentleman I corresponded with, no money exchanged hands; the job was simple, five minutes of my time.

Good morning Cynthia,
Thank you so much for your help, Hotei is sending you some luck today!!
I’m sitting here laughing at how simple the hand has been while my imagination was way off the reservation. I bet it happens a lot in your realm.

Thank you again for your time and expertise, I’m sure you’ve been able to appreciate and enjoy many works that only a few people get the opportunity to experience. I think that’s a really cool deal.
